The sideroblasts are cells of bone marrow lineage of red blood cells, whose cytoplasm contains ferrous inclusions that are related to hemoglobin.
The sideroblastic anaemias are due to insufficient synthesis of hemoglobin (red blood pigment used to transport oxygen) while the serum iron level is normal or high.
They are characterized by the presence of ringed sideroblasts reflecting the presence of ferritin in mitochondria.
* The causes of anemia are diverse:
* Congenital such as thalassemia
* Acquired or original toxic (lead), alcohol, isoniazid (TB antibiotic) for vitamin B6, or as idiopathic acquired sideroblastic anemia .
