
Acid reflux occurs when gastric juices containing acid from the stomach back into the esophagus (the tube through which we swallow). In some people, this happens regularly. The question then becomes gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD.
The food in the stomach is partially digested by acid and gastric enzymes. Normally, the muscles of stomach acid pushing content partially digested in the small intestine for further digestion. In the case of reflux, the acid from the stomach flows backwards to be found in the esophagus, causing inflammation and lesions.
Acid reflux can have many consequences in the lives of every day, sleepless nights, disrupted work, social activities limited and very irritable and discontent.
