Definition of Acne
From a medical perspective acne is a very common skin disease caused by inflammation of pilosebaceous follicles, particularly caused by the bacterium ACNI propion (Researchers have discovered the complete genome of this bacterium, which suggests further drug more specific in the future) and / or a change in hormonal.
Its most common form, juvenile acne, about 80% of adolescents and heals spontaneously by the age of 19 years, in 90% of cases, leaving no scars.
We realize that bacteria play a central role, an antibacterial is an excellent therapy (eg. Benzoyl peroxide)
Acne should be properly treated because it can cause scarring and lead to psychological problems (depression, isolation, loss of confidence ,..).
There are different forms of acne (acne, acne rosacea ,..) and only a doctor (dermatologist) may make a correct diagnosis and suggest appropriate therapy.
Causes of acne
Depending on the type of acne causes can be different:
- The acne is particularly due to hormonal disorders: at puberty the sebaceous secretion that depends on androgens (male sex hormones, especially testosterone) and estrogens (female sex hormones) increases significantly and influence the skin condition.
- He must also know that acne (juvenile or not) has a high incidence hereditary (genetic influence). For example if both parents have acne, the child has 60% chance to have acne.
- In other forms of acne and even acne in juvenile multiple causes may be the cause of acne. Note the importance of bacteria: ACNI propion (a bacteria responsible for acne) or the stress that can promote acne thanks to increased production of sebum.
- Food (chocolate ,…) could promote acne.
Symptoms of acne
- Acne is characterized by various forms, most of the time it is, however, comedones (blackheads) or small buttons (red or white) on the skin.
- In severe cases, the buttons can be large nodule or nodules, in which case medication is needed quickly to avoid any scars.
- The buttons of acne are usually located on the face, back or cleavage.
Medicines against acne
Attention to all treatments against acne be patient, it is only a few weeks after the initial results appear.
In superficial acne or acne not severe, local treatment by external enough and good hygiene to reduce bacteria from acne (morning and evening, although the soap where acne might be present, use mild soap for people with sensitive skin).
Drugs based benzoyl peroxide are certainly the most effective drugs to treat acne vulgaris mild to moderate. This molecule has an anti-acne proved by reducing the formation of comedones and sebum production. It also avoids the growth of acne bacteria.
Note: Drugs containing benzoyl peroxide, containing, as its name suggests, a derivative that peroxide bleaches hair and especially fabrics (towels, clothes ,…), so be cautious during the application to avoid additional costs in textile! When you purchase a product based on this molecule please read the package insert and ask your specialist.
In severe acne (eg characterized by fever, pain, including joints, skin lesions) a medical consultation is strongly advised, the dermatologist may prescribe such antibiotics in oral (not topical) the family of tetracyclines (doxycycline, minocycline …) or topical antibiotics, derivatives of vitamin A in the ointment or oral (isotretinoin). Warning drugs based on isotretinoin may lead to very serious defects in a pregnant woman and cause droughts in the lips and eyes, this drug should be used only during severe acne or resistance of other treatments.
